Auto-Responder
Added to Direct Read Mail
Date: 07/21/2008
We had some members request we add an
Auto-Response feature to Direct Read Mail and it was recently
implemented. If you'd like every person that emails you to receive
an automatic, immediate response, all you need to do is go to Direct
Read Mail and click the "Edit" > "Preferences" option on the toolbar
and at the bottom next to the "Auto Response" section, you'll see a
checkbox next to "Enable Message." Click that and enter your
Auto-Response message in the text box and click the "Save" icon and
you're all set!

New Direct Read Mail Filters Added!
Date: 06/30/2008
Direct Read Mail now has 3 new filters that will combat lots of spam in your mailbox! Foreign language, Top Level Domains and URL's with Ip Addresses can now been found in your Spam Hippo at
https://member.rginews.com/acc/user_global.asp.
The Foreign Language filter can be found by clicking the "Filters" option on the toolbar and then clicking the "Foreign Language" tab. This filter looks for foreign character encoded sets and will block all messages that match any of your selections in the scroll box. To select or deselect any languages, simply click them. To select contiguous languages, select the first one and press the SHIFT key and click your mouse and then select the last contiguous language you'd like. To select non-contiguous languages, simply click your selected ones while holding down the CTRL key.
The Top Level Domain filter removes messages based on top level domains appearing anywhere in the full mail header with the exception of the subject line. As an example, the originating domain of the email will typically be within the "Received From:" path header and this filter will remove any messages from the domains you select. To select or deselect any top level domain, simply click them. To select contiguous top level domains, select the first one and press the SHIFT key and click your mouse and then select the last contiguous top level domain you'd like. To select non-contiguous top level, simply click your selected ones while holding down the CTRL key.
The third new filter is one that deletes any email that contains an IP-based URL in the body. As an example, if you receive an email containing "http://123.456.789/spam.htm" in the body, this filter will remove it. This filter can be found on the Global Settings page at
https://member.rginews.com/acc/user_global.asp.

More Mail Suggestions Implemented!
Date: 06/05/2008
We've had some members request the
same features/changes in the past several weeks regarding mail.
First, was the ability to get to the Sender Queue from Direct Read
Mail (DRM) with one click. The "Spam Hippo" option of the
DRM toolbar has been changed to include a sub-menu with direct links
to the Approved Sender List, Filters, Reporting, etc. Clicking the
"Spam Hippo" choice on the toolbar will now take you
directly to your Sender Queue for faster approval on items waiting
in your queue.
The other change is to the numbering of filter priorities.
Previously, when looking at a list of your filters, you'd have to
click a filter one time for every step up the priority list. Also,
the page refresh would land you back to relative position of where
the filter you moved had previously been instead of the position of
where you moved it to. Now, you can click the Options link on the
line of the filter you'd like to move and then click 'Move Filter
to" and a
popup will prompt you for a position number. The number box defaults
to the next higher position so you can just click "Move"
if you're moving it up one position. The page will also position you
back relative to where the filter was moved.

Member Suggestions Implemented: Two New Mail Features!
Date: 05/08/2008
We've received some great suggestions over the past several weeks and have just implemented a couple related to filtering mail. The first was a request to add an option to filter any mail that has an attachment. To use this filter, go to the Spam Hippo Global Settings page at
http://member.rginews.com/acc/user_global.asp and check the box next to "Delete messages with attachments".
The second suggestion was to add a created date and last hit date on custom filters. This will show when a filter was added and when the filter last caught spam. It will definitely aid in seeing the effectiveness of a given filter.
You can view your current Custom Filters and
their created date at http://member.rginews.com/acc/user_globalcurrent.asp
The "Last Hit" field will update at midnight each day.

Code Installed for Retention/Incomplete Issues
Date: 05/07/2008
Around 10am PST today we installed new code to take care of the issues causing approximately 5 newsgroups to falsely indicate articles were incomplete or missing. Folks were seeing this problem in NNTP, Direct Read News and when retrieving by message-ID. We went back and tested most of the email examples we received from members and it has cleared the problem in every one we tested. Groups should be back to normal now.

DRN Large Binary Retention/Completion Code Installed
Date: 04/22/2008
Early this morning beta code was installed to correct the truncation problem in large binary groups in Direct Read News. Large groups were appearing to have very little retention or incomplete multi-part files. The change to Direct Read News is actually a three part installation: the first and biggest portion was installed this morning, the second part to clean up cache issues and the third is related to file re-building. We anticipate installing the second part by Friday and the file re-building early next week.
The bulk of the DRN issues with large binary groups are being addressed with the beta software we installed this morning.
Subject:
NNTP Large Binary Retention/Completion Code Successful
Date: 04/21/2008
We wanted to thank everyone for their
feedback regarding the beta NNTP code that
was implemented on Friday. The code fixed
the problem members were experiencing
when connecting to large binary groups and
randomly seeing low retention or
missing articles. A couple of new issues
came up in the feedback that, although
seem similar to the original issue, are
actually different and are being
addressed through tech support.
Subject:
NNTP Large Binary Retention/Completion Beta Code Installed
Date: 04/18/2008
We were working on a solution to the problem of certain large binary groups truncating retention and causing completion problems when connecting through NNTP. A beta version of the software to fix the issue has now been installed. If you connected through NNTP prior to 12:00pm (PST) today, please reconnect to begin using the new software. This beta version will run over the weekend and we'll collect feedback on Monday and let everyone know the outcome. You should be seeing 90 days of retention and completion rates back to normal.

New Spell Checker Added to Direct Read Mail!
Date: 02/06/2008
Direct Read Mail has now been enhanced to
include the Spell Checker that was recently
added to Direct Read News! Direct Read Mail
and Direct Read News will share your
personal Dictionary for more productive
spell checking! When you compose new mail or
reply to someone elses mail, you'll now see
a new option in the toolbar called "Spell
Check". After writing your mail, click the
Spell Check icon and all misspelled words
will be highlighted in yellow (they turn
green once an action is taken!) and you'll
see a menu under the first misspelled words
that provides the option of Add to
Dictionary, Change to, Ignore, Cancel and 10
alternate spellings for quick clicking. If
no misspelled words are found, a message
will appear above the "Browse" button
indicating that. To complete the spell check
in either case, simply click the "Check
Done" icon that replaced the original "Spell
Check" icon and you're all set! You can
access your Personal Dictionary in two ways.
When you're composing a new mail, or
replying to mail you received, you'll see a
"Dictionary" option in the top toolbar. In
the main toolbar of Direct Read Mail, you'll
now see "Dictionary" as an option under the
"Edit" choice of the main toolbar. Any
additions or deletions to your Dictionary
from Direct Read Mail will effect your
Dictionary in Direct Read News and vice
versa since they are shared.

Improvements to Direct Read Mail Attachments/Sent Box
Date: 01/11/2008
We heard from members regarding the way Direct Read Mail handles forwarded mail with attachments in the Sent Box. DRM was logging the mail in the Sent Box but not indicating that an attachment had been included. What you will see now is a paper clip icon as well as the attachment file name in the Sent Box.

Improvements to Direct Read Mail
Date: 01/09/2008
The following
improvements have been made to the Direct
Read Mail web interface based on helpful
feedback we've received from members...
http://mail.rginews.com/zmail
1) If Direct Read Mail is set to
automatically check email on a specific time
interval, the interface will no longer
redirect members to the "In" folder. Prior
to this change, if a member were viewing the
contents of a different folder (Out, Trash,
etc.) the interface would redirect them to
the "In" folder each time it checked for new
email.
2) The "Mark As Read" and "Mark As Unread"
features within the "Edit" menu worked
intermittently with different web browsers,
but that problem has since been corrected.
At this time members should be able to
change the status (read or unread) of one or
more email messages using these menu options
and the Ctrl / Ctrl-Shift selection
controls.
3) Direct Read Mail will now display the
date information for each email message in
the "mm/dd/yy" format, rather than "mm/dd".
We hope that the improvements are helpful!

Help-A-Community Program Goes on Vacation
Date: 01/01/2008
First of all, congratulations!
During the past eighteen months of program operation, the effort
made by RGInews and RGInews subscribers was able to contribute a
substantial sum of money to charitable organizations. We won’t know
exactly until the January accounting close, but something on the
order of $100,000 went to people who could use a little help. So
take a bow, pat yourself on the back – the folks who signed up to
participate in the program and those who took the time to stay and
manage their continued donations, did a really nice thing.
We’re not giving up on the program, but we are going to give this
one a rest. Service subscribers can recharge their batteries on this
issue, the service can redirect revenue to needed service
infrastructure upgrades and we can come up with something fun and a
little different for the next effort.
We’d like to get feed back on the Help-A-Charity program structure
and objectives. If you get a moment and would like to share, just
shoot us an email at support@rginews.com.

Two New Search Fields added to Global Search
Date: 11/12/2007
Several requests for new search
criteria to be added to the Global Search have arrived and today
you'll see a couple of them! The "File Extension" field allows you
to search for a specific file type such as jpg, avi, mpeg, etc.
You'll definitely want to pair that criteria with another search
field since there are millions of each of the file types included in
the 90 days retention.
You'll also see a new option under "Search These Newsgroups" called
"Exclude these Newsgroups". Putting newsgroup(s) in both fields will
exclude articles cross-posted to the Excluded groups, while entering
newsgroup(s) only in the "Exclude" field will search all groups
except those specified in the Exclude box.

without gluing the pieces together!
Date: 11/8/2007

longer required.

Suggestion Implemented: IP Address Added to Connection Stats and
"Usage" Stats Added to DRN
Date: 10/31/2007
Some great suggestions have
been coming in and two were just implemented! You've had the ability
to View/Terminate your active connections to RGInews servers in your
Account Manager. Now you can now see the IP address associated with
each connection!
Your connection data, along with your available download capacity,
has now been included in Direct Read News under a new toolbar menu
item called "Usage" in the article list. This will give DRN users
the ability to quickly View and/or Terminate any active connections
including the IP address associated with each connection.

Improved Global Search Navigation
Date: 10/24/2007
We've gotten some great feedback on the recent
Global Search changes and a new version was just installed that
addresses that feedback. First, the menu systems and functionality
have been changed to more closely resemble Direct Read News. As an
example, when you click the "Load Saved Search" page, you'll see a
list of your Saved Searches. You can now use Shift-Mouse or
Ctrl-Mouse to make contiguous or non-contiguous selections for
deletions. Clicking a saved search name will now take you to a
completed search form that you can edit and overwrite by clicking
"Save" or creating a new search with the edited version by clicking
"Save As". All of the controls for the search pages have moved up to
the toolbar to improve consistency between search and DRN.

Two New Charities Added!
Date: 10/22/2007
The generous participation of members in the
"Help A Community" program has contributed to those in need for over
a year now! We had originally said we'd carefully watch charities
and their respective contributions and replace those that were
drawing well below others. Keeping an eye on the activity, today two
new charities suggested by members have been added to the program:
the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and the Partnership for a
Drug-Free America. The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network ("Pancan")
is a nationwide network of people dedicated to working together to
advance research, support patients and create hope for those
affected by pancreatic cancer. Founded in 1999, the Pancreatic
Cancer Action Network has grown into the only national leader to
fight pancreatic cancer in a comprehensive way. We accomplish our
mission to advance research, support patients and create hope by
providing direct funding for research, and demanding more aggressive
federal research funding; by providing patients and caregivers with
reliable information to make informed decisions with their
healthcare teams; and by helping individuals and communities work
together to raise awareness and funds to find a cure for pancreatic
cancer. More information can be found at http://www.pancan.org.
The Partnership for a Drug-Free America is a nonprofit organization
uniting communications professionals, renowned scientists and
parents. Best known for its national drug-education campaign, the
Partnership’s mission is to reduce illicit drug use in America. Now
in its 20th year, the Partnership helps parents and caregivers
effectively address drug and alcohol abuse with their children. A
major new initiative now unfolding integrates the latest science and
research with the most effective traditional media and digital
communication techniques to give parents the tools, resources and
support they need to help their children lead healthy lives. You can
read more at http://www.drugfree.org.
City of Hope and America's Second Harvest were drawing well below
other charities and will be removed from the active list of
charities. If you had selected either of these charities for your
contributions, please go to your Account Manager to select a
different charity. All members can change their
charity selection at any time.
As we enter the holiday season, your generosity with "Help A
Community" will benefit many people and spreading the word will help
even more folks!

New: Save Your Searches and Detailed Search Status!
Date: 10/18/2007
At the request of members, the Global Search
has a couple of new features that should come in quite handy (and
have to us while testing!).
You can now save any search that you may execute frequently. Once
you enter your search criteria, click the new "Save" icon and you'll
be taken to a screen that shows your search criteria with a
defaulted search name that includes the search criteria. You can
overwrite that name or leave the default and then click "Save"
again. On the main search screen, you'll now see a new "Load" icon
which takes you to a screen showing all of your Saved Searches. On
that screen, you can view/edit or delete your Saved Searches. To
execute a Saved Search, simply click the name of the Saved Search.
Search can be accessed from the Message List toolbar in DRN.
Members also asked for more detailed information while their search
is being executed. A new Search Status will be displayed near the
top of the results screen, indicating the number of results that
matched your criteria and the progress of the scanning process. You
can now save a search after you receive your results for a search by
clicking the "Save Search" option on the Search Results toolbar.
Don't forget that Global Search was recently upgraded to add a
Preference for the number of results to be displayed per page which
can be set by clicking the "Preferences" option on the same Search
Results toolbar.

now begun!

Newsgroup column titles can all be clicked to sort results after the
page is fully loaded. This feature will come in even more handy with
a new Preference that allows you to set the number of search results
you'd like displayed per page. To change that setting, click the
"Preference" option on the search results page toolbar and enter
whatever number you'd like under the "Global Search" heading for "#

Suggestion Implemented: Direct Read Mail Now Receives/Forwards
HTML Mail
Date: 10/04/2007
Many folks that get email from places like Ebay
and Amazon wrote to us asking if we could have Direct Read Mail
recognize and format those as HTML. Also, they wanted the ability to
forward those to other people who might be interested in a "Chicago

Downloading/Decoding/Display
Changes in Direct Read News
Date: 10/01/2007
We've heard from many members both new and old,
regarding the way Direct Read News (DRN) handles multi-part binary
and archive files. Based on all the input, Direct Read News now
handles those files in a more efficient and less confusing way (once
you get used to it!) While the majority of members expressed a
preference to just "get the files and play/view them" we realize
that many members, for various reasons, want to continue to have
access to the list of contents of multi-part files, RAR archives and
image archives. These changes satisfy everyone!
First, a new Preference has been added under the
"Preference > Display" option on the main toolbar:
Multi-part messages:
Display sub-message list when subject is
clicked
If you check this option, you will always see the
sub list of files making up the top level file by clicking the Subj
line. This applies to multi-part files, RAR files and image archive
files.
If you leave this option unchecked, clicking the
Subj line of a multi-part article will automatically decode and
display the file. Clicking the Subj line of a RAR file (designated
by a CD Icon in DRN) or image archive file (designated by a "+" sign
in DRN) will automatically launch Batch DL.
Most folks requested we default this to not show
the individual parts but rather to launch Batch Download since they
weren't sure what to do with all the parts.
Secondly, clicking the CD Icon on a RAR archive
will automatically launch Batch DL. However, you'll now see a new
option in the Batch Download popup specifically for RAR archives
that are smaller than 500Mb's:
Options for Downloads Above:
Decode/Assemble RAR archive
Clicking this option will decode and assemble your
RAR archive and then download it (if that was your chosen action).
You'll now see a spiffy new assemble/decode status popup for RAR
archives letting you know where things are in the process. Once the
file is downloaded, you can immediately execute the file without any
further decoding.
RAR archives larger than 500Mb's will
automatically launch Batch Download also but the option to decode
and assemble will not be there since the assemble and decode time
required on a file that size is more efficiently run on your local
system.
Please keep the input coming!

Suggestion Implemented: Multi-Select Added to All DRN Screens!
Date: 08/28/2007
At the suggestion of members, the multi-select feature has been added tp "Search This Newsgroup", Thumbnail and Album views, and Display RARs View in Direct Read News! The "Search This Newsgroup" feature has been enhanced to include the multi-select feature, making it more convenient for folks to locate, select & download their favorite newsgroup content! Simply enter your search request from the Search > This Group option on the Article List Toolbar, then use Ctrl-Shift-Mouse (contiguous selections) or Ctrl-Mouse (non-contiguous selections) to quickly select files of interest from within your search results page. Additionally, the Multi-Select feature is now available on the Thumbnail and Album Views (View > Thumbnail or Album on the Article List Toolbar) of Direct Read News, as well as the "View > Display RARs" option on the same toolbar! Click a "DL" link that appears next to any of your file selections, and the entire list will be placed in a BatchDownload window, where you can then transfer your selected content to a computer, cell phone or PDA! For the Thumbnail and Album views, you can use either the Multi-Select feature, or the traditional checkboxes and then click the "Download" button above the files to launch
BatchDownload.

Enhanced Batch Download Status/Progress Information
Date: 08/10/2007
The Batch Download feature in Direct Read News was enhanced to provide clearer status on the progress of Batch Downloads. You'll now see each file's individual progress based on the method of retrieval selected. As an example, if you choose "Zip and Download" you'll see "File 1: decoding, File 1: downloading, etc" along with a running total of bytes transferred. Many folks have requested this, especially when retrieving many files or large files.
*Note for Internet Explorer Version 7 Users: You will receive a IE message at the top of the Batch Download pop-up which says, "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer blocked this site from downloading files to your computer. Click here for options...". This is a new feature which is completely independent of pop-up blocking. To permanently allow downloads, go to the Tool Bar in IE and select:
[Tool] -> [Internet Options] -> [Security] -> [Custom Level] -> [Automatic prompting for file downloads] Select "Enable".

Member Suggestion
Implemented: Multi-Select in Direct Read News!
Date: 08/02/2007
At the suggestion of members, a new feature has been added to
Direct
Read News that will allow you to quickly select & transfer multiple
newsgroup files to a BatchDownload window with a single mouse click!
When viewing the contents of a newsgroup in the "Message" list mode,
simply place your mouse cursor over a file of interest & click.
A blue background will appear behind your file selection, and
Ctrl-Shift-Mouse (contiguous selections) and Ctrl-Mouse
(non-contiguous selections) can then be used to select additional
files within the newsgroup.
Once you've made your selections, click the "DL" link next to any of
the selected files and they'll be transferred in total to a
BatchDownload window. It's that easy!
We're in the process of applying the new selection feature to DRN's
"Thumbnail" view, and for members that prefer the original selection
method, you can continue to create BatchDownload lists by clicking
on individual "DL" links that appear within a newsgroup.
We hope the new feature makes your DRN downloads more convenient,
and we wanted to say "Thanks!" to everyone that took the time to
share this suggestion. As always, if you have any ideas for how we
can improve your service experience, please do not hesitate to let
us know...

RGInews Goes Cellular!
Date: 07/18/2007
RGInews
goes cellular for Usenet! You can now download audio and video files from Usenet through the BatchDownload feature of Direct Read News. Download your favorite photos, songs or movie files and send the files or links your cell/PDA. Optionally you can compress your video files to 3GP format prior to transferring to your cell. The 3GP format greatly reduces the size of video files by adapting them to cell phone screens which allows for much faster transfers.
Members may also BatchDownload photos, music & videos to their PC as a single ZIP file, and the 3GP converter will automatically compress any video content before it's added to the ZIP file.
Transfer files directly to your mobile device as an attachment (MMS), or send text links
(SMS) that can be used at your convenience to download selected newsgroup files through your mobile device's web browser, it's entirely up to you!

More Direct Read Mail Enhancements
Date: 06/18/2007
A new version of Direct Read Mail has been installed that addresses some issues members have been reporting. The software was changed to improve the locking of a folder so inadvertent simultaneous access to a box would not cause improper handling of transfer requests. You'll notice there is now a message displayed while mail is
transferred that lets you know it's in process. The algorithm for the actual transfer was enhanced which greatly increases the speed at which mails are transferred from one folder to another which makes moving large groups of mail much more efficient.
A shortcut was also added to your Address Book when composing mail. If you click the "To:" which precedes the email address you'll be sending to, your Address Book will pop up and you can select an entry from it.

Mark Read/Unread Added to Direct Read Mail!
Date: 06/11/2007
Many members suggested we add a "Mark Read/Unread" feature to Direct Read Mail. That has now been implemented along with a "Select All" option. A new item has been added to the main toolbar entitled "Edit" which offers those three options along with moving "Preferences" under that as well. If you have a folder with lots of messages and would rather use the "Select All" option than using the SHFT-Mouse option, just click "Edit" and then "Select All". The Mark Read/Mark Unread option will change all selected messages to be either read or unread depending on which option you select.

Suggestion
Implemented: Create Your Own NZB Files!
Date: 06/04/2007
At the suggestion of members, a new NZB selection has been added to
the BatchDownload feature, which will offer another option for
streamlining your newsgroup downloads!
For those unfamiliar with BatchDownload, this feature allows members
to quickly queue, decode & download a list of newsgroup files that
they've selected through our Direct Read News or Direct Read Search
web interfaces. The decoded files are conveniently packed into a
single ZIP file, which can then be saved to your computer.
Rather than download & scan the entire contents of a large binary
newsgroup, members can simply use Direct Read News or Direct Read
Search in conjunction with BatchDownload to locate and acquire
specific posts of interest.
Similar in concept, NZB is a text based file format that uses
Message-ID information to retrieve specific newsgroup posts from a
news server, without having to download the entire contents of a
group.
Members can continue downloading files through BatchDownload as
usual, or with the new NZB feature, members can save their
BatchDownload list as a NZB that can be used in concert with a NNTP
newsreader to transfer newsgroup files of interest! Please note that
the NZB option requires a NNTP newsreader that supports NZB files,
and a news service such as RGInews that supports the retrieval of
newsgroup content via Message-ID.
We hope the new feature is helpful, and wanted to thank everyone
that took the time to share their NZB suggestions in recent weeks.
If you have other ideas for how we can improve your service
experience, please take a moment to
email your suggestions.

More Member
Suggestions for Direct Read Mail Implemented!
Date: 05/29/2007
After the most recent version of Direct Read Mail was installed,
members
provided even more feedback in the form of enhancements to the
program. Several
of these have now been implemented in the current version of Direct
Read Mail.
Depending on the font setting in both DRM Preferences and browser
preferences,
some folks were having difficulty distinguishing a bold unread
message from a
non-bold read message. The font has been changed to gray now on read
messages.
An arrow was added to the column title to show the current sort
selection.
Rolling your mouse over the envelope icon in the message list will
now display
the size of the message.
A couple of requests were made relative to the address book which
have been
included. One is a quick "Add" icon next to all
"From" addresses in email you've
received which automatically transfers the sender's email address to
your
Address Book and prompts you for a nickname. A second item is when
composing a
new message, in the "To:" field, you can now enter a
Nickname or an email
address. The field is now context sensitive and will display a list
of your
nicknames that match the characters you've typed at any point.
All dates in Direct Read Mail including dates on received and sent
mail are now
displayed based on your time zone setting in Preferences. To set or
change your
timezone, click the Preferences option on the main toolbar and
select your
timezone from the drop-down menu.
Last but not least, members requested we bring back the “Folder is
empty”
message when applicable, which is now back.
Thanks again to everyone who took the time to request the changes
and for the
comments in general!

Suggestion Implemented: Exclude Your Mail
from System-Wide Filters!
Date: 05/24/2007
We had received some suggestions to add an option for members to
opt-out of
system-wide mail filters. Excellent suggestion and the feature has
now been
added in Spam Hippo! To set your mail to not be filtered (excluding
any filters
you may set in Spam Hippo), go to Spam Hippo at http://mail.rginews.com/zmail
and click the "View/Edit Filter Preferences" link at
http://mail.rginews.com/acc/user_global.asp. The third item on the
page is
"Apply system-wide filters to my messages" which is
currently checked. To remove
filtering, simply uncheck the box and click "Save Changes"
at the bottom of the
page.
We heard from many people on this suggestion and the vast majority
wanted to
keep system-wide filtering so the default on the setting for
everyone is to keep
it in place.
We appreciate the continued suggestions - many terrific ones that
we're working
on at the moment or have scheduled as future projects. We'll
continue keeping
everyone up to date as they're implemented.

DRM Revision Implemented: Speed
Enhancement
Date: 05/21/2007
A new version of Direct Read Mail was implemented that significantly
increases
the speed of common tasks such as opening a folder and transferring
mail between
folders. The changes optimize DRM across all browsers dramatically
and most
notably in the current version of IE. We're currently working on
several
projects with DRM including changes requested by members and even
more
improvements on common functions. We'll be posting soon about those
implementations.
Subject: Member Suggestion! Multi-Select Added to
DRN Thumbnail View
Date: 05/17/2007
Based on member suggestions, a checkbox has been added at the end of
each row in Direct Read News Thumbnail and Album Views. This
features now makes it easier to select and transfer multiple binary
newsgroup files to the BatchDownloader. The checkbox button appears
at the end of each row of thumbnailed binary files, and can be
toggled to either select or deselect all of the files within a given
row.
We appreciate your continued suggestions, and we're currently
scheduling several projects to address those requests!
Subject: Introducing the All New Direct Read Mail!
Date: 05/14/2007
We're extremely excited to announce that a completely new version of
Direct Read Mail has been implemented! The biggest change you'll
notice is the ability to drag & drop messages into folders. Direct
Read Mail was originally based on HTML coding, which proved to be
limiting when it came to implementing new email features within the
interface.
As a result our
development team found a new protocol that supports drag & drop as
well
as other tasks that were awkward to implement with HTML. As an
example, a big change in
the new version is the ability to select multiple messages either
contiguously with Shift + mouse click or randomly with Ctrl + mouse
click. This, coupled with drag & drop, make the new Direct Read Mail
very easy to use and much more efficient!
You'll also notice a new menu system with the look and feel of
Direct Read News. To open a message, simply double click it. If your
Preferences are set to include a Message Preview Window, a single
click will display the message and a double click will initiate the
"Reply" screen. Many cosmetic changes to the screens make Direct
Read Mail a much more pleasant experience.
These changes were based helpful feedback we've received from
members, and we truly appreciate your comments & suggestions. We
hope that Direct Read Mail becomes your #1 email program of choice,
and we look forward to continued improvement of the interface based
on your input and suggestions!
Subject: Direct Read News / Speed Increase to RAR-Thread
Sort
Date: 04/24/2007
RGInews' Direct Read News web interface was enhanced today with a
new software version that significantly increases the sort speed in
Thread Sort for both Expanded and Collapsed. The speed increase will
be especially noticeable in larger binary newsgroups that contain
RAR files. New incoming articles are already in the new sort
database and existing articles are currently being converted to the
new database. We expect all articles to be in the new sort format by
early tomorrow.
